Our History

Our History

For two decades, Hope Academy, now known as Our Hope (OH), has been serving the immigrant and refugee population in Washington through academic and social services. As an organization founded by East African families to support other immigrant families, they are proud to be one of the first organizations by and for East African communities in the state of Washington. They operate a K-8 school that provides after-school programming, mentorship programs, family support, and college preparatory services. Fortunately, Our Hope purchased a 40,000-acre property in White Center, where they provide services.

One of the unique qualities of Our Hope is that our leadership comes from within the community we serve. Our leaders have personal connections and were once beneficiaries of our programs, allowing for a deep understanding of the needs and priorities of the community. Our Hope’s holistic approach ensures that staff support the entire family unit, empowering them not just to survive but to thrive within the community they call home.
